The formula

Returned orders = Orders × Return rate / 100; Refunds = Returned orders × AOV; Revenue after refunds = Original revenue − Refunds; Return handling cost = Returned orders × Cost per return.

Worked example

500 orders at ₹2,000 and a 10% full-order return rate produce 50 returns, ₹1,00,000 refunds, ₹9,00,000 retained revenue, and ₹7,500 return handling cost at ₹150 each.

Frequently asked

Is retained revenue profit?
No. This excludes product costs, fulfillment, payment fees, write-offs, and resale value. The model assumes full refunds and the same average order value for returned and retained orders.
