The formula
Churn = Lost starting customers / Starting customers × 100; Retention = 100 − Churn; Ending customers = Starting − Lost + New still active.
Worked example
Of 1,000 starting customers, 50 leave: 5% churn and 95% retention. With 120 new customers still active, the ending customer count is 1,070.
